AVRE VAT #01 is a whisky drawn from rare single malt casks, created in tribute to the 265 Commandos and Royal Navy personnel who sailed into St Nazaire on 28 March 1942. Limited to 265 bottles, each one carries the memory of a night defined by courage, precision, and resolve beyond measure.

In darkness and silence, the men of Operation Chariot struck with determination, their mission shaping history and leaving echoes that endure. AVRE VAT #01 honours the spirit of that night; the quiet steadfastness, the commitment to a cause, and the legacy carried forward through generations.

Blended from exceptionally rare casks for a flavour that can never be recreated, the vatting yielded only enough spirit to fill 265 bottles. Fifteen years of maturation have imparted the spirit with a rich antique brass hue, and each bottle is hand-signed by James Holland and Al Murray, marking this whisky as a collector’s piece to display in quiet tribute or open and share.

  • Nose: Apple crumble, tropical fruits, fresh herbs, heather honey
  • Palate: Rounded and balanced with madeira cake, vanilla cream, soaked sultana, and hints of milk chocolate
  • Finish: Warm and longlasting with oak spice, sweet toffee, and a hint of cedarwood

Tasting Notes

Warm and inviting on the nose, AVRE VAT #01 opens with sweet apple crumble and tropical fruits, layered with fresh herbs and heather honey. The palate is rounded and balanced, unfolding into Madeira cake, vanilla cream, and soaked sultanas, with a mouth-coating hint of milk chocolate. A long, warming finish follows, carrying soft oak spice, returning sweet toffee and a subtle hint of cedarwood.
